iPhone vs Android: Which is Better for Mobile Gaming?

Game Availability

One of the main factors that influence the gaming experience is the availability of games. Some games are exclusive to one platform, while others are released earlier or later on different platforms. Generally speaking, iOS users get games first, as many developers release their games on Apple’s App Store weeks or months before availing them on the Google Play Store. The reason behind this is that it is easier to make games for iOS users, as the OS versions are few and only two devices: iPhones and iPads.
By contrast, developers have to make games for more than 100 companies when targeting Android users. Unlike iOS, Android users aren’t always quick at installing the latest Android versions. As such, game makers are forced to invest more resources to make games available in a variety of Android versions. In addition to all the reasons above, iPhone users spend more on games than their Android counterparts. Money is the major driving force for many developers, which is why they avail their games first on iPhones.
However, this does not mean that Android users have no access to quality games. In fact, there are many more games on the Google Play Store, exposing you to a wider variety of genres and styles. Moreover, many Android games are free or cheaper than their iOS counterparts, which can save you some money in the long run.

Game Quality

Another factor that affects the gaming experience is the quality of the games. This includes the graphics, the sound, the gameplay, and the performance. Both Google and Apple have premium games that are smooth on iPhones and Android mobile devices. Some developers go to great lengths to ensure players can’t differentiate between playing on an iPhone or on an Android device. But, the game quality differs from one game to the other. Sure, there are more quality games if you are an iPhone user, but that doesn’t mean all Android games are crap. If anything, some Android games are better than their iOS counterparts, especially if they are optimized for specific devices or features.
For example, some Android games support higher resolutions, frame rates, and refresh rates than iOS games. This can make the games look more realistic and immersive on Android devices. Some Android games also support external controllers, keyboards, and mice, which can give you more control and precision over your gameplay. Additionally, some Android games have more customization options, such as changing the graphics settings, the difficulty level, or the game mode.

Gaming Restrictions

A third factor that influences the gaming experience is the gaming restrictions imposed by the platform. This includes the censorship, the updates, the compatibility, and the security. Every once in a while, Apple will introduce a new law that sees thousands of apps wiped out of its store. One day you could be enjoying your favorite iPhone app, the next, your game is no longer supported by Apple. This can be frustrating and disappointing for gamers who invested time and money in their games. Compared to Apple, Google rarely interferes with mobile games on its apps, unless there is a worldwide outcry concerning some of them.
Another restriction that iOS users face is the compatibility issue. As the user mentioned in the input, game developers exclusively give time and develop games according to the current model of the iPhone. This keeps iPhones away from lags, performance issues, etc., which are prominent in most of the Android devices. However, this also means that older iPhone models may not be able to run the latest games or updates. For instance, you cannot compare the gameplay performance of an iPhone 5 and a Galaxy S8 today. But an iPhone 10 will beat it with ease. So, whoever is reading this must keep in mind that when Apple stops updates for a particular model, say iPhone 4s, the games that run presently won’t work on it.
On the other hand, Android users have more flexibility and freedom when it comes to compatibility. Most Android games can run on a wide range of devices, regardless of their age or model. Of course, some games may require higher specifications or newer versions of the OS, but you can always find alternatives or solutions to play them. For example, you can use emulators, root your device, or install custom ROMs to enhance your gaming experience.

Reliable User Experience

A fourth factor that affects the gaming experience is the reliability of the user experience. This includes the battery life, the storage space, the gaming features, and the customer service. As already mentioned, you can find good games on both Apple and Google Play Stores. But what if you wanted to play the same game on either platform? Would it be more enjoyable to play a game on an iPhone or on Samsung, Asus ROG, Lenovo Legion, Black Shark 4?
If this was asked a few years back, I would have directly opted for iPhone. But it’s not the same anymore. Android devices like Asus ROG, Lenovo Legion, Black Shark 4 have dedicated hardware and gaming features. A Black Shark 4 with a 6.67-inch FHD+ E4 OLED screen running at 144Hz, along with a 720Hz touch sampling rate, or Legion Phone Duel 2 with two cooling fans that work in combination with a vapor chamber to help keep the phone cool, defeats any iPhone device by a large margin.
Battery/Charging: One place where iPhone lacks is battery drainage. iPhones have lower battery capacity and hence they get drained easily. iPhone 12 Pro Max has 3687 mAh battery and its whopping ₹ 1,19,500. And Apple being classy Apple are like: We are going to use a lightning port and yes, NO CHARGER in the box. Here, even mid-range Android devices go miles ahead.
Storage Space: Another area where iPhone falls behind is storage space. iPhones have limited and fixed storage space, which can be a problem for gamers who want to download and play many games. Moreover, iPhones do not support external storage devices, such as SD cards or USB drives, which can expand your storage capacity. Android devices, on the other hand, have more and flexible storage space. You can choose from different models with different storage capacities, and you can also use external storage devices to store your games and data.
Gaming Features: A third aspect where iPhone lags behind is gaming features. iPhones have basic and standard gaming features, such as touch screen, gyroscope, accelerometer, etc. However, they do not have any special or unique gaming features that can enhance your gaming experience. Android devices, on the other hand, have many gaming features that can make your games more fun and engaging. For example, some Android devices have dual speakers, haptic feedback, RGB lighting, air triggers, cooling systems, etc. These features can improve the sound, the vibration, the visuals, the controls, and the performance of your games.
Customer Service: A fourth factor where iPhone trails behind is customer service. iPhones have good and reliable customer service, but they are also expensive and limited. If you have any problem with your iPhone, you have to go to an authorized Apple service center, which may not be available in your area. Moreover, you have to pay a hefty amount for the repairs or replacements, which may not be covered by the warranty. Android devices, on the other hand, have cheaper and more accessible customer service. You can find many service centers or shops that can fix your Android device, and you can also buy spare parts or accessories online or offline.

So, which is better for mobile gaming: iPhone or Android? The answer is: it depends. It depends on your preference, your budget, your needs, and your expectations. If you want a device that has more game availability, game quality, and gaming restrictions, then you may prefer iPhone. But if you want a device that has more reliable user experience, then you may prefer Android. Ultimately, the choice is yours. You have to weigh the pros and cons of each platform and decide which one suits you better.
I hope this article helps you make an informed decision. Happy gaming! 😊
